I really had no problem with them, even if they can be better. No, they aren't ugly, as another IMDb user said so. The characters do seem a bit hard to maneuver, but after a little practice, their easy to master. But, all you must do is get used to them. You can train them to fight and race other Chao. The Chao Garden is a place where you get to take care of cute, and funny-looking creatures. You can later use the rings when you unlock the Chao Garden. You fight various robots, and collect rings too.
The levels have decent variation, and never get too repetitive. Playing through each level gets very fun. Eggman) You get to shoot at enemies to attack them. (Knuckles, Rouge) You fight some enemies, but your main objective is to dig up all three of the Green Emeralds that you can within the time limit. (Sonic, Shadow) You can curl up into a ball (like Sonic usually does) and attack enemies by rolling, jumping, etc. There are three types of characters on each side, with specific missions. You can play as either a hero or a villain. Sonic Adventure Battle 2 is an excellent game that I really enjoyed. I strongly recommend this game to all Sonic Fans. But the theme songs are great mix of rock, rap, pop, and jazz. Except when it drains out the characters.

Truly my only gripes with the game is the phony tag-line "Battle to save the world, or conquer it" ****I was rather disappointed with the Dark Side ending. Shadow of course is the kick but character, seeking revenge for his dear friend, Maria. It's kind of scary to beat up Sonic, when playing Shadow, when you are a long time Sonic fan. The battle sequences are exhilarating, and awesome. No nonsense levels, such as with Big the Cat. The story is really well done, and keeps you going to find the whole thing. I was so excited to get this game, seeing as I am a long time Sonic Fan. ****Denouts Spoilers Truly SA2 is one of Sonic finest.
